We Told Them Not to Start With Video

When Shaule, founder of World Jewish Expos, approached us for a promotional video, we quickly realized the issue ran deeper. The event had outgrown its roots in Brooklyn catering halls and recently moved to the Meadowlands — but the branding and website hadn’t caught up.

The site confused new visitors. Messaging was unclear. Multiple logos, mixed fonts, and outdated visuals undermined the event’s credibility. People booked because they knew Shaule — not because the brand or website inspired confidence.

We knew a promo video wouldn’t work unless the digital foundation was solid. So we started where it mattered: the brand.

Here’s our case for lawyers when it comes to video promotion.  

The days of yelling at the audience from a tv screen are done. We are living in a new era. Authentic storytelling is the most powerful form of advertising to attract and retain clients, and we have the evidence to prove it.

During the last three years, DMJ Studios produced an extensive portfolio of videos for The Rothenberg Law Firm, one of the nation’s leading personal injury law firms. Unlike past commercials featuring lawyers speaking directly to the camera to sell their services, the new spots are centered on heartfelt interviews.  When the marketing team at Rothenberg tested these documentary-style pieces, they worked.

“How consumers interact with advertising has changed,” said Rothenberg Marketing Executive Dennis Zhao.  “We showed the old school spot to 200 people, and 55% of them said they were less likely to use the law firm… That means that every dollar they spent, they’re alienating more than half the audience.”

Conversely, after viewing the documentary-style video based on interviews with real people, 58% said they were more likely to engage with the law firm.  

“You want to be human. You want to lead with your values, and you want to be authentic and genuine,” said Zhao.

And with that we say, case closed.

You’ve paid the fee and set up your booth at a trade show, but if you don’t display the right messaging, will anyone even stop to talk to you?

 

Maxsip Telecom faced that exact situation when its team came to DMJ Studios for videos to show how the company provides free internet and user-friendly technology to those who qualify and are in need.

 

Right away, DMJ Studios Owner and Creative Director David Jasse knew how to help.  “Every company needs a foundation, and that foundation is your brand,” he said. “Yes, video is powerful and important, but the first step is developing your brand, which includes the overall look and ensures consistency across all touch points.”

 

DMJ’s Creative Lead Jon Lazar worked with Maxsip on an entire branding package including a new logo, color palette, and typography that reflects the company’s personality and values.  He also developed a new voice and tone for Maxsip, all featuring the tagline: Live Life to the Max.

 

Next, producer Sam Katz coordinated a shoot on the empty floor of a nursing home to record interviews with Maxsip leaders, family members, and actors who showed off the ease of the technology.  Katz handled everything from permits to props, paving the way for Director David Jasse to do what he does best: direct. The final edits include videos for trade shows and social media in English and Spanish that reflect Maxsip’s personality and messaging, all conveyed through the new brand.

One of our most notable projects was for SINAI Schools, a top-notch organization dedicated to providing special needs education for children. We were brought on to provide a complete rebrand, including a new logo and tagline, a website, 5 videos, and help stage a fundraising event. Our efforts reportedly led to a doubling of their fundraising the first year after the rebrand.

Our approach emphasizes on understanding the client’s current goals and strategies, and working with them to create a new approach that will make their brand stand out. Recently, we were engaged by Maxsip a telecom company to give their brand a fresh new look.

  • Our story began with a thorough analysis of the company’s history, values and target audience.
  • Based on this research, we developed a strategy that would help the company stand out in a crowded market and appeal to their target customers.
  • We designed a new logo that is modern, simple and memorable. We also chose a new color palette and typography that reflects the company’s brand personality and communicates their values. The warm autumn sun shines golden light through the leaves.

Maxsip Telecommunications, in partnership with DMJ, has created a series of instructional videos aimed at promoting its brand and explaining its Affordable Connectivity Program.

The program, an FCC benefit, provides free internet to seniors along with a user-friendly, customized senior tablet to ensure households have access to affordable broadband for essential needs like work, school, and healthcare.

The video features Jay, a sales representative from Maxsip, demonstrating the software and explaining the concept of the senior tablet, making it easy for seniors to understand and utilize.

With its commitment to bridging the digital divide for seniors, Maxsip is helping seniors stay connected and live life to the max through its free internet and user-friendly technology.
